Five Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner Isn't Cooling Your Residence

July 10, 2020

When it’s a warm summer morning in Phoenix, nothing is worse than registering your AC isn’t working the way it was built to. The last thing you need to do is schedule AC service. But your HVAC is a quite complex system, so it can be difficult to determine what’s triggering the trouble on your own.

That’s why Integrity AC & Heating LLC wrote this guide to help you find out what could be happening with your home comfort system. Here, you’ll discover a couple typical reasons your space is feeling a little too warm. And though a couple of these are simple DIY activities, you might still need to bring in a professional for AC repair.

And if you need us, Integrity AC & Heating LLC is here for you. Here are five reasons why your air conditioner may not be cooling your residence in Phoenix.

1. Your System Settings May Be Incorrect

Every person sets their thermostat a bit differently to work with their particular needs. However, a lot of people make the error of setting their thermostat to “On” instead of “Auto.” Because of this setting, the fan in your AC will continue to push out air even when you’ve achieved your desired temperature.

This can look like your vents are distributing room temperature air, when in reality it’s simply using the fan more often than necessary. Try switching this setting and see if things cool off.

2. Your Air Conditioner Needs a Routine Cleaning

There are two principal spaces to look for dirt or dust buildup when your HVAC doesn’t appear to be working well.

First off, inspect your HVAC filter. If you don’t switch your filter often enough, accumulated dirt can make it hard for air to flow through and cool your home. If your filter is clearly dirty or dusty, it’s more than likely time for a change. (And for best operation, you have to switch it about once every three months at the very least.)

If your filter seems good, move to your outdoor unit. Find out if there’s adequate space around it and clear away plants or dirt around it. This piece of your AC lets out the heat from within your rooms. If the coils outside are congested, you won’t be cool inside.

We suggest setting professional air conditioner maintenance yearly to keep your system working properly and to keep your warranty valid.

3. Your AC is Releasing Refrigerant

Refrigerant is the material that cools down the air in your house. It moves between your indoor and outdoor system elements to grab and let out heat, to help your place keep comfortable. If there is an opening along the way, you won’t be comfortable again until you schedule professional air conditioning repair.

Signs of a refrigerant leak include a drop in cooled air, more expensive electric bills, frozen evaporator coils and odd hissing noises originating from your system.

If you suspect refrigerant might be leaking, call Integrity AC & Heating LLC for HVAC repair as soon as possible. Refrigerant can also be harmful to your family’s health.

4. One or More Pieces Need to Be Replaced

Your cooling system includes a few key elements. These include the blower, evaporator coils, compressor, fan, condenser coils and expansion valve. If any one of these is not working, your home comfort suffers.

Our Integrity AC & Heating LLC technicians are well-trained and experienced in HVAC. They can help you find and fix any issue.

5. Your Whole System Should Be Updated

If your system is upward of 10 years old, it might be a good time to think about new air conditioner installation. As your system gets up there in years, it unfortunately won’t function as well as it has in the past. And it could be making your place too warm.

If your HVAC unit is more current but still isn’t properly cooling your home, it might be the wrong size for your space. AC units are not all the same size. A system that’s not powerful enough absolutely can’t chill a home the way a properly sized AC can.
