Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely gotten through winter in Phoenix just yet. Mother Nature may have a few nice days, but she’s always prepped to remind us that she’s in charge. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call us for out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall may bury your air conditioner in the snow, hindering its performance when the temperatures finally warm up for the season. Not to mention it can keep a high-efficiency system from running as such. The situation could become an even greater problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to help your air conditioner operate as it should even though snow has fallen or could fall in the approaching days and weeks.

  1. Ensure you have a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Walk around the area routinely to ensure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that could have accumulated during the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, covering your air conditioner may end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner can be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, causing damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Phoenix will more than likely fluctuate up and down over the last few days of cold weather, you can’t count out the chance of weather that can alter the performance of your air conditioner. At Integrity AC & Heating LLC in Phoenix, we are always available to inspect any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re about air conditioner service or buying a new system.
